I know that buying a home can be a stressful endevor, and to add to the frustration it seems you are constantly writting an endless amount of checks to everyone that drains your spirit, let alone your wallet. I almost always know when someone is at their wits end and picking a home inspector by price; their very first question is, "What do you charge for a home inspection?". I agree, that is a normal first question when we shop. It is our culture to compare prices. The cheapest price is like a badge of honor that invokes admiration from your peers.
In a recent message on my cell phone the caller said, "I'm looking for the cheapest home inspection I can find. If that's not you don't call back." I remember thinking, how nice; he's not looking for me. He wants the inspector who just started business or the inspector that hands over the inspection report one hour after getting out of his truck.
I worry about the "cheapest" caller. Is he buying the cheapest house in the state? Does he equate a lesser price with a "better deal". Why does he want the cheapest home inspection on the most expensive purchase that normal people ever make in their lives, THEIR HOME?

But looking for the cheapest price on a service, particularly one as important as the condition of your most expensive purchase is always bad.
